1. Research the pros and cons of any major financial decision you must make
2. Have a yearly financial plan and goal regardless of your income level
3. Commit a percentage of your earnings to savings, if your work has a 401(k) match program, participate in it...you will not miss the money taken out of your paycheck, because you will never see it (until you retire!)
4. Check your credit score at least once a year...it's free to check once every year!
5. Make your own coffee (at home or at work) and put what you would spend at a coffee shop into a retirement account.
6. Set an good financial example and encourage others to be financially responsible
7. One of my friends who is an elementary school teacher tell his students to order water when they go to a restaurant, then ask the parents to reimburse the cost of a soda, with the understanding that the child will save the money.
